Oyster Delivery Driver and Buying Station Representative

Role:
We are looking for an energetic, and reliable oyster delivery driver with a strong work ethic to conduct our twice-weekly deliveries on Mount Desert Island, and occasional off-island deliveries. This position involves some minor paperwork, lifting lots of oysters regularly, and driving a refrigerated truck along a traffic-filled route. We need a candidate with strong driving skills, a willingness to hop in and help wherever needed, and excellent communication skills. Since this person is responsible for directly interacting with our wholesale clients on a regular basis, they will ideally be a friendly and customer-service minded individual. Timeliness, cleanliness and organization are important. Ideally you feel comfortable handling minor vehicle maintenance during a delivery route if something readily fixable occurs. Candidates who are flexible and can problem solve effectively in a fast-paced environment will stand out.
On farm oyster work as a deck/farm hand is available to fill out the work week for interested candidates.
Responsibilities:
Effectively communicate systems, operations and needs with the administrative team
Assist with loading market oysters into the refrigerated truck at the waterfront which includes backing down a boat ramp.
Keep paperwork associated with deliveries, pick-ups, and Vibrio sp. regulations during specified months.
Comfortable assessing minor refrigerated truck maintenance items i.e. fluid levels, battery troubles, fixing a flat etc.
Driving the delivery route and completing oyster drop-offs efficiently, keeping a positive and friendly attitude with clients
Routinely cleaning of the delivery truck
Based on weekly needs, printing tags to label oyster bags
If available and desire additional hours, occasional property maintenance tasks such as grounds keep, and small repairs/maintenance on buildings
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license & Clean driving record.
Honest and trustworthy.
Clear and direct communication skills.
Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
Willingness to work outside and drive in a variety of conditions from March-December.
Comfortable being on your feet and driving for large portions of the day, as well as the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50lb.
Ability to navigate through restaurant kitchens, including some stairs, while carrying bags of oysters to deliver.
Comfortable maneuvering/driving a refrigerated truck in tight areas with potentially high levels of traffic.
Must live or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance to the farm before employment starts.
Ability to keep detailed records both on paper and using phone applications.
Basic understanding of car/truck mechanics for preventative maintenance
Ability to safely tow and maneuver trailers (up to 35’) is preferred.
