BAR HARBOR OYSTER COMPANY

Established in 2014, we have been hand farming our Bar Harbor Blonde oysters sustainably in the Mt. Desert Narrows.

The merroir of Maine’s pristine waters distinguishes our boutique oysters from the rest.

BAR HARBOR BLONDES

Each of our market-size Bar Harbor Blondes spends 3 years growing on our 22 acre lease.

They have a briny, buttery taste that is both savory and sweet with a rich umami base. The meats have a pleasant firmness and a crisp, clean finish.

Their cocktail-size shells are deep-cupped, well-manicured and bright like their namesake. They are known for being remarkably easy to shuck.

BUILDING A LEGACY

Maine oyster farms make healthy habitats!

Sustainable farming is at the core of what we do.

Our co-owner and operator, Joanna Fogg, talks more about the positive environmental effects of aquaculture:

SHUCKING TUTORIAL:

Properly shucking an oyster makes a world of difference. With the right tools you can learn to shuck like a pro. It's so easy you can do it in a blizzard!

Maine has a hard working community of ardent aquaculturists that we are proud to be a part of.

Watch the video to learn more about our story:

“As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.”
